Our three rescue dogs have brought my husband John and me so much unconditional love. Adopted dogs seem to know they are rescued , and give back to their human companions in so many ways it is difficult to explain in words. I grew up with parents that believed the only way to have a dog was to rescue one from a shelter. When I was ready to own my first dog, I headed to the Humane Society. The people you meet that work at animal shelters are very special to dedicate their work to helping homeless animals.
I learned how enormous the problem of animal overpopulation is by the emails and newsletters I received from various organizations. While the stories are heartbreaking; once I understood the problem, I could not turn a blind eye. Volunteering for HSMC has filled a void in my life to help homeless animals. It started for me when I received an invitation to Paws in Motion last year.
I called the phone number for volunteers and learned of the many ways I could help HSMC.
As food and beverage chair, I am proud that my company Publix is sponsoring the snacks for Paws in Motion. Please come out and join us at the Walkathon on May 17. We had such a good time last year! It was so much fun to see the community together with their dogs, walking and raising money for such a great cause.
